The book is a quick read that helps the taxpayer look at the economic problems with a different set of eyes. The politicians make each problem complicated and the solutions even worse, however, the solutions just need some common sense.

A fantastic book based on Thomas Paine's "Common Sense". Number one book in the nation on New York Times Reviews. Well worth reading for all ages, especially in these troubled times. Worth the price. If you care about the future of America, you need to read this book.

The book is short and sweet and to the point. Everyone in America should read this book. Beck pushes us to use some common sense, and that is something that is severely lacking in this country right now - especially in the administration.

 "Glenn's Common Sense" 2009-08-09
By Jean Reilly (NJ)
This book is great, very informative. He actually uses common sense to remind us of all the wheeling and dealings of the current and past administrations and how harmful they have been to this county and our freedom.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to be informed (and reminded) of what is taking place in our government and what we need to do to take our government back using our "Common Sense".

"Not just a great serial killer tale, but also a scathing look at the newspaper business" 2009-08-09
By Joshua Mauthe (Nashville, TN)
I discovered after finishing this that Connelly was partially inspired to return to the Jack McEvoy character (from The Poet) after watching season five of The Wire; its scathing portrait of the newspaper business and its current status made Connelly interested in visiting some of the same territory. I've long argued that Connelly isn't the greatest writer in the world, but his sense of time and place - whether the post-Rodney King LA of the Bosch novels or the increasingly downsized Los Angeles Times of this one - and his strong sense of verisimilitude more than make up for his pedestrian style. The Scarecrow is no exception, and in some ways, it may be one of his best books in a long time. The main story - about McEvoy being given his two-weeks notice, his desire to go out with a bang, and the way that leads him into the sights of a long working but unknown serial killer - is a great one, and Connelly milks the suspense for everything its worth. (His use of alternating sections between McEvoy and the killer is intriguing; not only does it allow him to add to the suspense, it adds more depth to the villain than we could otherwise get.) But the book is just as worthy for its subtext about the declining state of newspapers; while McEvoy isn't as complex or rewarding a character as Bosch, his strong commitment to journalism makes him a great character for Connelly (himself a crime reporter for many years) to write about. A great serial killer tale, a nice exploration of the media, and more, The Scarecrow is a must for any Connelly fan.

 "suspense filled page-turner" 2009-08-09
By Gr8ful (Southern California)
Another good book by Michael Connelly. This thriller was a bit predictable but a fast-paced enjoyable read. I didn't want to put it down. I thought it brought out a lot of issues about the safety of our information and identity that is available on computers. If half of what he says is indeed plausible and someone with a sick mind can access our records it's a bit unnerving. While the story had brutal and dark aspects to it which I would prefer be written in less detail, I still thought it was an excellent book.

"Good read but not his best work" 2009-08-09
By Thos. R. (Washington)
This was the best of this summer's reads. Good action and suspense, however, some of the other reader's critical comments were valid. Clearly, not as good as most of his earlier works. Though it was not the case in this book, Connelly is best for coming up with a surprise ending that the reader never sees comming. Nevertheless, he's probably my favorite author.

I've never read anything by Connelly before and I might try another book he has written but I was very disappointed with The Scarecrow. After reading every book Greg Iles has written, this book was "flat." No surprises and not much character development compared to Iles's characters. I will read another to give Connelly a chance...hope it will be better than this one.

"Spellbinding, the very definition of a page turner!" 2009-08-07
By R. C Sheehy (Foxboro,MA USA)
The Scarecrow is one of the best books I have read this summer. Michael Connolly creates a thriller that vibrates with tension, twists and turns. As is the case with all great thrillers, you know who the bad guy is and rather than being a spoiler, it makes the book all the more exciting to read. The characters are well developed and the action is plotted very well. No one here is superhuman but instead they are intelligent and highly motivated much like real people.

This is a perfect beach or pool side read. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to dive into a book and not find themselves bored by page 30!

"My first Projector and Toshiba's first LED (Mobile) Projector, GREAT" 2009-05-01
By ArcKal (Oak Brook IL, USA)
I received it yesterday, first day I started using to play movie from my laptop and it did well. The screen was a big as promised 60", could be more but due to my room size I could not tried it. Colors were very sharp only when its complete dark but overall nice. As compare to other projectors its has only 100 lumens, it did really a great job. The only glitch I see is it required complete dark to display natural colors, otherwise in light its colors turns to some kind of blue. Screen size is also good, can use various screen size as input. The price is a bit higher as there were two choice to buy, when I was looking at small (portable) PICO projectors the other one was samsung's new projector (P400) was also good but for design, size, feature I choose Toshiba. [...] As it has extra features like SD/MMC and USB host could be used to display your JPEG pictures (sideshow). I tried this and it was really nice to see my all pictures on big screen. I wish if it could add more feature to use USB for power point presentations and pdf files and process wireless data compatibility. Thanks to Toshiba to make such device in a small container. It's size is really small, it's not smaller then your palm but it will not go out of your palm too.

Well it does comes with a Sleeve/Cover and remote, video cable and the best part is with the VGA cable to connect your laptop/computer.

"Use with iPhone and iTouch is Limited" 2009-05-31
By Putterer (Mount Holly, NJ)

This is a review of the AAXA Pico mini projector, based on use over a month.

Brightness: The Pico offers adequate brightness at short range in daylight at normal monitor size of 15-22". In a completely dark room, the image is bright at 24" and adequate at 42" The picture is low-resolution but certainly adequate for videos.

Convenience: The size of a pack of cigarettes, the projector is easily pocketed. Use with an iPhone/iTouch, however, is inconvenient, especially with the short cord supplied as an extra.

The device, however, can also be used alone or with iPhone/iTouch or periferals such as a digital TV tuner or the Netflix TV device. These items worked well. Use alone is most convenient.

Comparison: Since the device is marketed for use with the iPhone/iTouch, an evaluation is needed here. Does the iPhone expand the usefulness of the projector? The short answer is no.

The iPhone iTouch small screens are themselves mostly preferable for individual viewing. More important, iPhone/iTouch AV does not provide a picture to the Pico at all much of the time, for example, the desktop/springboard, Safari browser, the weather channel. The latter limitation greatly diminishes usefulness of the Pico.

Based on all the above, then, the best use of the AAXA Pico is in the dark without any other auxiliary equipment, such as for viewing a movie downloaded to it. The Pico is put to its best advantage in projecting a large picture to the ceiling in the dark, for example in a hotel room or hospital. For such use a vertical bracket would be desirable to hold it in place. A bracket is also really needed for horizontal projection.

The device looks substantial except possibly for the light rubber lens cap and the plastic battery cover. External headphones or speaker(s) are mandatory; the speaker volume is extremely low.

Summary: The Pico excels at use without other equipment in the dark, especially for overhead projection. It is not recommended here for use with the iPhone/iTouch. However, use with Netflix box might be handy. Use with a digital TV tuner worked but requires an antenna for good reception.

For seniors, such as with wheelchair and small attached screen, use is impractical. Hopefully such uses will be developed for the handicapped..

 "Little monster!" 2009-04-15
By LL
I recently bought this little giant to compliment my collection of Portable media players. I now use it regularly at night to watch TV shows recorded via Archos on my ceiling at 40" -50" and it works really well with Archos products. I primarily use it with Archos 504 that has the direct video out form the player, however I have also used it with Archos 605 with travel adaptor and it does the job just fine. Below is a mini review for people who may consider buying. You can buy it directly from the manufacturer at aaxatech.com

Pros:

* Tiny projector

* 30,000 bulb life, will never need replacement.

* Has built in memory of 1 gb

* Micro sd card slot (read my sandisk 8gb card just fine, a very pleasant surprise, manual says can read up to 2 gb)

* Portable with battery, in my battery test it gave me 48 minutes with speaker, have not tried it with headphones, I am assuming it will add more time.

* Works really well through a/v in function, one can use any video source.

* Built in software is good, I observed no video stuttering while using the micro sd card as the source of video.

* Supported file formats include MP4, MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, AVI, WMV, SMV, BMP, JPG, GIF, and TXT.

Cons:

* Of course with 12 lumens you have to be in a room fairly dark, it is pretty much useless in a bright room. Best use in my opinion is at night with very little light. So, this may not be a good choice for people considering it to run presentations in offices. However, at night I had no problem watching videos on this.

* Does not come with a tripod, I found it difficult to hold it; it would be nice to see an accessory that may offer tripod that one could use even on uneven spaces.

* Sound output is tiny and useless from built in speaker, you may have to use either head phones or have it attached to some kind of music system.

By T. Mackay (Manhattan Beach, Ca USA)
I ordered one as a gift, but when it came, I kept it. It was too cool. I ordered it with the IPOD cable ($15) plugged it in, turned it on and hit play on my IPhone 3G. Killer picture. It works pretty good in a well lite room at maybe 13" to 18" screen size. In a pitch black room, on a white wall the picture was 50" to 60" easily....Wow. It's a wee bit noisy, like fan noise. But other then that thumbs way up. Very Impressed, especially for the size and price.

I would have to say I am simply amazed with this product for the price. It throws up a huge screen at a short distance and has awesome quality for gamers and movie buffs. I use mine mostly for my X-Box and shooting nazi zombies on a huge high quality screen is amazing.

I would give this 5 starts but I think the subwoofer went out the first day and also gaming does have a slight lag... but you get use to it.

Has any one else had issues with the subwoofer where it sounds like the sub is blown out?

 "Good value" 2009-07-27
By T. Semple (CA USA)
We do not subscribe to cable or satellite, have no access to broadcast TV, and don't play video games, and really, and really don't have the TV on that much of late. As such, we have no requirement for viewing HD content. However, our 31" TV no longer seemed big enough for viewing of letterboxed DVDs. We'd want at least a 42" flat screen to replace it, not to mention needing to replace our home theatre system. And the problem with all of the HD equipment I've seen to date is that it absolutely sucks for viewing SD content: it wants to stretch or morph or crop it in ways that are unappealing and even nausea-inducing. Replacing it with an even larger SD TV (I'm sure someone would sell us one, cheap) is an equally unattractive option, since our living room is not that large.

The Toshiba projector fulfills our larger-screen desires, at a fraction of the cost of upgrading everything to HD. Plus it is portable enough to take it outside for summer lawn-viewing, or to friend's houses for parties. The short-throw means you can hook it up to audio equipment without having cables snake across the entire room.

I considered getting a higher-resolution device (this is 800x480) but it probably would have added $200-300 to get to true XGA support, much less HD.

There are a number of options for mapping 4:3 to wide screen format. If the content really uses the entire 4:3 screen area, it seems the best option is to just project it that way as well, adjusting the distance to make it fill whatever width you have available on the projection screen. To do otherwise is to introduce unwelcome distortion. But for letterboxed content, Full seems to be best. But that's with VGA/SVideo/Composite input.

Most of the time I use a laptop to play the DVD and use a DVI-to-HDMI cable plug this into the HDMI input). This takes a 1920x1080i signal and downsamples to fit the projector's resolution of 800x480, which gives better results than the analog inputs. However using HDMI, the Toshiba projector will only accept audio from HDMI as well, so an external sound source has to be used in this configuration (DVI plug on my laptop does not support audio output).

My only reservations have to do with audio. The built in 'surround sound' audio is <10W, and is not really usable in outdoor settings, so you need to also have a sound system as well. However, piping the audio directly to an external system system results in a slight loss of sync (I'd say <80ms) between video and audio (which seems to bother only me, and then only a little). The only solution to this seems to be to invest in some sort of electronic gizmo to introduce a delay in the audio signal before sending it to the sound system, so that it again syncs with the video, or to run the audio through the projector and out again via the digital output. Of course, when playing a DVD from our home theatre, neither of these are options since there is no way to introduce an audio delay, or to select an outside source for audio. Apparently there is a TDP-ET20U with a built-in DVD player, which would obviate this slight problem completely.

I just got this projector yesterday. Given the price, I had very little expectations, however, my family and I are completey wowed by the quality of the picture. I was able to get it set up in about 10 mins. The remote control is very easy to use. I haven't yet checked the in-built speakers since I connected the DVD audio output to my music system. Picture is definitely much better when it is completely dark. Short throw lens is a great plus. I have it setup 4 ft from the wall and I get a good 100in screen. I feel sorry for people who spend thousands of dollars on big screen TVs. This is sooo much better.

"surprised at the brightness, seriously bright for 3000 lumens" 2009-05-10
By doppelganger (Chicago)
This is really for the Casio S 57 which I purchased at B&H because I couldn't find it here. They're pretty similiar.

Bottom line is Casio's 3000 lumens is really surprising. I purchased an Epson Powerlite earlier this year and after seeing this I feel really stupid for thinking the price was going to equal quality.

The Keystone Correction is the best invention ever, throw it up on the wall and the machine corrects the angle automatically, making it square. So nice.

And this is plenty of light for conference rooms. Movies are a go also. Haven't had it long but it's looking great so far.

The problem with the Casio's is that they're noisy. Putting it in "eco mode" will help a great deal and it doesn't compromise light drastically. But it's still too much ambient noise. If someone is directly across the table in it's path, then it's: "yo Bobert, what? WHAT?"

But I am impressed nonetheless !
